Zone Alarm is a Firewall which is a software product to protect your Internet connection. Zone Alarm will stop inbound traffic from the Internet which has no reason to come in and also stop many of the Spyware products which are reporting from your machine while connected to the Internet.

Zone Alarm will also catch applications attempting to Dump your connection. Dumping is a practice some Web sites use to charge for access to their content and your connection can be reset to dial a differnet number which may be an International or 190 Australian number charged at $5 or more per minuite resulting in very large phone bills.
