DNS
Domain Name Server

Similar to a phone book for devices on the Internet. All devices have a unique numeric address. When a name address (i.e. www.roam.net.au) is requested, the DNS converts this to a numeric address.

A single machine could have several IP addresses and Name addresses.

256 Colour image file. Commonly used in Web pages, often as an animation.

Compressed image file
A JPEG file is commonly used in Web page design mainly for photos and other continuos tone images. A JPEG file is heavily compressed and therefore quick to download. Generally the best format to use when sending a picture via Email.
